Martin’s Musings: Emergence

Can values Fight Terrorism?
This is a question that I have been wrestling with lately. I believe the answer is yes. But it is not an easy yes. And I think that it would require the use of other intelligence gathering. If one can agree that we all have a multitude of values and priorities acting within us at once, then I think that we can create values signatures. These signatures could help to identify certain behaviors. While I do not think there are “terrorist” values. I think there may be values themes that show up as higher in priority for groups that may tend to engage in terrorism.

But I think the real issue might be in the anticpation of behavior. People tend to think and speak before they engage in behavior. If we were to be monitoring suspected terrorists, and the values were to shift, this could suggest that some type of new action was to be taken. While we would not know for sure whether the behavior was for good or evil, it would definitely suggest a closer look.
